How do you deal with a toxic family member you cannot cut off?

My older brother is constantly critical, manipulative, and causes drama at every family gathering. I cannot simply cut him off because my parents would never forgive me and we see each other constantly. How do you manage a toxic family member when cutting them off is not an option?
