Is it selfish to want time away from your children?

I love my kids more than anything but sometimes I fantasize about being alone, sleeping in, and just existing without someone needing me constantly. I feel terrible guilt for feeling this way. Is it normal and okay for parents to crave time away from their kids?

Not only is it normal, it's healthy. Parental burnout is real and well-documented. A parent who never recharges has less to give. Wanting time alone is not a sign you love your children less.

The guilt you feel is actually a sign of how much you care. But guilt-driven parenting leads to resentment over time. Taking care of yourself is one of the most important things you can do for your children.
