How do you set boundaries with overbearing parents as an adult?

I am 28 years old and my parents still call multiple times a day, show up unannounced, and have opinions about every decision I make. I love them but I feel suffocated. How do I set limits with them without destroying the relationship or making them feel rejected?

Be specific and consistent. Instead of a general conversation about boundaries, address each behavior directly. 'I need you to call ahead before visiting' is more actionable than 'you need to give me more space.' Then follow through every time.

Understand that their overbearing behavior often comes from love and anxiety, not control. Acknowledging that before setting limits helps the conversation go better. 'I know you care about me and that's why I want to talk about this.'
