How do you recover from a gambling addiction?

I have a serious gambling problem that has cost me my savings and damaged my relationships. I have tried to stop on my own multiple times but I always return. The urge hits me intensely and when I am in it I cannot think clearly. How do people actually recover from gambling addiction?

Gamblers Anonymous has helped many people and is specifically designed for this addiction. Blocking yourself from access to gambling sites and physical casinos, and giving financial control temporarily to someone you trust, reduces the opportunity to act on urges while you build recovery.
