How do you help someone you love who is struggling with addiction?

My brother has been struggling with drug addiction for 3 years. I have tried everything from confronting him to enabling him trying to keep the peace. Nothing has worked and I am exhausted, scared, and angry. How do you actually help someone with addiction who is not ready to stop?

You cannot want recovery more than they do. Enabling, controlling, and rescuing all delay the moment they face the full consequences of their addiction. Al-Anon specifically exists for family members in your situation and can be genuinely helpful.

Take care of yourself first. You cannot help him from a depleted place and watching someone you love destroy themselves is traumatic. Your wellbeing matters independently of whether he recovers.
