How do you process grief without letting it consume you?

I lost my mother six months ago and I am struggling to find balance. Some days I am overwhelmed by grief and cannot function. Other days I feel guilty for feeling okay. I want to grieve properly without it taking over my entire life. How do people navigate this?

Grief does not need to be managed or overcome, it needs to be moved through. The goal is not to stop feeling it but to gradually build a life around it. Good days alongside grief are not betrayal, they are how you survive.

Grief has no correct timeline or expression. If six months in you are still struggling that is not pathological, it is the reality of loss. Be as patient with your grief as you would be with a friend who was grieving.
