How do you manage the fear of losing people you love?

I have an intense fear of losing the people I love. I worry constantly about their safety, their health, and their mortality. This fear sometimes stops me from being fully present with them because I am too busy being afraid of losing them. How do you cope with this kind of anticipatory grief?

The fear of losing someone is inseparable from loving them. Rather than trying to eliminate the fear, practice redirecting attention from the feared future to the actual present. The person is here now. That is where your love can actually land.

If this fear is intense and persistent it may be health anxiety or generalized anxiety disorder. Therapy, particularly CBT, is very effective for this specific pattern and would let you be present with the people you love instead of constantly braced for their loss.
