How do you make friends as an adult when everyone already has their circles?

I am in my late 20s and moved to a new city. Making friends as an adult feels almost impossible. Everyone seems to already have established friend groups and there is no natural context for meeting people the way there was in school. How do adults actually make new friends?

Repeated unplanned interaction is how most adult friendships form. Classes, clubs, regular group activities, and coworkers you see consistently. The key is showing up to the same place repeatedly until familiarity develops naturally.

You have to be more intentional than you were at school. Ask for numbers. Suggest plans. Follow up. Adult friendship requires actively choosing people over and over. It feels awkward but it works.
