Why do we find certain people attractive and others not at all?

I have tried to figure out what makes me attracted to some people and completely indifferent to others who are objectively good-looking. Attraction seems almost random to me. What actually determines who we are attracted to?

Attraction is a combination of biological signals like scent and symmetry, psychological factors like familiarity and attachment style, and cultural conditioning. It is never purely about looks which is why conventionally attractive people are often not who we end up wanting.

Research shows we are often attracted to people who remind us unconsciously of early caregivers or who fill psychological gaps we have. This is why attraction can feel irrational because it often is operating below conscious awareness.
