How do you stop hating your body when nothing seems to help?

I have struggled with body image my entire adult life. I have tried losing weight, working out, dressing better, but I still look in the mirror and feel disgust. No matter what I change externally the feeling stays the same. How do you actually make peace with your body?

Body hatred is rarely about the body. It is a feeling looking for a home. The external changes never fix it because the problem is internal. Therapy focused on the relationship with your body rather than the body itself is usually more effective than any physical change.

Start by changing what you ask your body to do rather than how it looks. Focus on what it can do, how it feels, how it carries you through the day. Function before form changes the relationship slowly over time.
