How do you ask for help without feeling like a burden?

I find it almost impossible to ask for help even when I desperately need it. I worry I am being a burden and that people will think less of me for struggling. I often prefer to suffer alone rather than ask. How do you get past this and actually reach out when you need support?

Think about how you feel when someone you care about asks you for help. You probably feel honored, not burdened. Most people experience asking for help as closer to that than to the imposition you fear.

The belief that you are a burden is usually a story from your past, not a reflection of how people actually experience you. Asking for help is an act of trust and connection, not weakness.
