What are the most common deathbed regrets and what can we learn from them?

I read something about a nurse who collected the regrets of dying patients and I cannot stop thinking about it. What do people most commonly regret at the end of their lives and what does that tell us about how to live better now?

The most commonly reported regrets are: working too much at the expense of relationships, not expressing feelings honestly, losing touch with friends, and not having the courage to live authentically rather than by others expectations. Almost none are about professional or material failures.

The pattern is clear: people regret things they did not do far more than things they did. The embarrassments and failures you fear leave much lighter marks than the risks never taken and the words never said.
