How do you make better decisions under pressure?

When I am under pressure I consistently make worse decisions than when I have time to think. I panic, I overthink, and I often choose the option that relieves the immediate discomfort rather than the best long-term option. How do you make good decisions when time is short and stakes are high?

Create space before deciding even when it feels like there is none. Most urgent decisions can wait 10 minutes. Step away, breathe, and ask one question: what does the calmer version of me think about this? That question creates distance from the panic.

Pre-decide how you will handle common high-pressure scenarios before they happen. If you know in advance how you will respond to certain situations you do not have to think under pressure, you just execute the plan you already made.
