What does it mean to be non-binary and how do you know if that is you?

I have been questioning my gender for the past year. I do not feel fully like a woman but I also do not feel like a man. I keep reading about non-binary identity but I am not sure if I fit the definition or if I am just confused. How do people figure out if they are non-binary?

Non-binary simply means your gender identity does not fit neatly into the binary of man or woman. There is no specific feeling or threshold you need to meet. If the label resonates and feels true to you that is enough reason to explore it.

Gender identity exploration is allowed to be a process and not a destination. You do not need certainty to use a label tentatively. Try it privately, see how it feels. You can always revise your understanding of yourself.
