How do you tell if someone is genuinely interested or just bored and lonely?

A guy I have been talking to texts me a lot and seems very engaged in conversation but he never actually makes plans to meet up. I am starting to wonder if he is genuinely interested in me or just keeping me around for attention when he is bored. How can I tell?

Genuine interest leads to action. If someone talks to you constantly but makes zero effort to actually see you in person after a reasonable amount of time, they are probably keeping you as a backup or entertainment. Actions are what matter.

Test it by suggesting a specific plan. 'I am free Saturday afternoon, want to grab coffee?' His response will tell you everything. A yes means interest. A vague non-answer means you have your answer.
