Is it okay to grieve a relationship that was never officially defined?

I had a situationship that lasted 8 months. We were not officially together but we acted like a couple. When it ended I was devastated but people keep telling me I have no right to grieve because we were never officially together. Is that true?

Your grief is completely valid. The pain you feel is proportional to how invested you were, not to what the relationship was called. Unofficial relationships can cause very real heartbreak.

People who say you have no right to grieve have probably never been in a situationship. The ambiguity actually makes the grief harder because you also grieve the clarity you never had.
