Is it healthy to have secrets from your partner?

I keep some things private from my partner, not big things but certain thoughts, past experiences, and some aspects of my inner life I have not shared. My partner believes couples should tell each other everything. Is complete transparency actually healthy or is some privacy normal?

Privacy and secrecy are different things. Privacy is keeping parts of your inner life to yourself which is healthy and normal. Secrecy is hiding things that would affect your partner or the relationship which erodes trust. You are entitled to a private self.

Complete transparency is not the same as intimacy. True intimacy means feeling safe to share, not being obligated to share everything. A relationship that demands total access to every thought is controlling, not close.
