How do you maintain attraction in a long-term relationship?

My partner and I have been together for 6 years and I love them deeply but the spark I felt early on has faded. We are more like roommates than romantic partners sometimes. Is it possible to reignite attraction after years together or does it inevitably fade?

Attraction in long relationships needs novelty and separateness. Doing new things together, maintaining independent interests, and creating anticipation by spending some time apart all help sustain desire over time.

The early spark was neurochemical and temporary by design. What replaces it in healthy long relationships is deeper and more complex. But it does require active investment, not just coexistence.
