Why does success not feel like enough and what fills the void?

I have achieved everything I set out to achieve: the career, the income, the status. But I feel emptier than I did when I was struggling. I thought success would bring fulfillment and it has not. I am embarrassed to complain about this but the emptiness is real. What fills it?

External achievement answers the question of competence but not the question of meaning. What fills the void is usually contribution, connection, and growth that is not tied to status or recognition. The shift is from achievement for approval to engagement for its own sake.

You may have been chasing someone else's definition of success. Now that you have arrived you can see it doesn't fit. The emptiness is feedback. It is pointing toward what actually matters to you rather than what you were taught to want.
