How much alone time is healthy in a relationship?

My partner wants to spend every evening together and gets upset when I want time alone. I love them but I feel suffocated when I cannot have space. How much alone time is normal and healthy to need in a relationship without it being a sign of disinterest?

There is no single correct amount. What matters is that both people feel their needs are respected. Needing alone time is a healthy and normal human need, not evidence of disinterest. The conflict arises when one person's need for closeness and the other's need for space are not negotiated.

A relationship where both people completely merge and never want space can actually be a warning sign of codependency. Healthy individuals maintain some independent life within a partnership.
